This image and sounds are of the Millstone River at this time of year. It is November, where it is the rainy season here on Vancouver Island.
Over the past year, year and a half, I have been spending much of my time walking through Bowen Park along the Millstone River. I look forward to starting my day, after dropping my kid off at school, immersing myself in the sounds and scents of the ecosystems within Bowen Park.
It’s a time where I can just be me. A time to let my feet and heart guide me in the direction to walk that day. I often find myself walking the paths along the Millstone River as I am drawn to the sounds of the moving water.
This photo is one particular spot in Bowen Park where I often spend a lot of time sitting (or standing if it is raining or too wet to sit) and listening to the meditative sounds of the river and nature.
I am drawn to watching the water flowing, trickling, cascading, rushing by. When I am still enough, the sight of the moving water helps me visualize thoughts, feelings and chatter in my head slowly loosening up, breaking away, dissolving and feel them be carried away with the currents. A form of meditation you could say.
Walking amongst the trees and along the river I feel whole, safe and know that I belong.
I wanted to share with you what I feel is the healing power of water. Just being still in its presence. Grounding myself. Looking up and around. Reminding myself that I am just a small speck in the greater web of life.
I share this video with you to invite you to take a moment for yourself. Take this time to be still, to slow down, to listen to the flow of the water.
Where do you feel it in your body? Where do you feel the sounds, the movement of the water?
Close your eyes. Just be still. Take deep breaths. Reconnect your mind with your body. A reminder that we are whole. That we are enough. You are enough.
Whatever you are holding onto at this moment, you can let it go. Let it go.
Watch the water move it over the rocks, over the falls, down the river. Carrying it away. Nurturing it. Taking care of it as it carries it out to sea.
What is one thing you do to create space for yourself each day?
