You Were Never Meant to Lead Like Them

Reclaim leadership rooted in your wholeness, your ancestors, and your vision for what’s possible.

Organizations and people don’t just need knowledge—they need transformation. My clients experience meaningful change through intentional facilitation, holistic coaching and culturally-grounded learning that moves from understanding to action.

What Clients Have to Say

I was the Principal (Head of School) at The Mabin School from 2016-2024. During that time, we hired Marilyn as a Consultant and Facilitator to guide us in our ongoing learning about Indigenous ways of knowing. With her, we learned about Inuit culture, participated in online professional development, and strategized about the best ways to move forward in our efforts to participate in truth and reconciliation processes. Our learning with her deepened our understanding of Inuit culture, and led us to participate in a series of relational and experiential learning opportunities. As school leader, I appreciated her intentionality and care in planning our learning, and the iterative process she engaged us in as we moved through our year working together.

Marilyn was a foundational partner in the development of teaching resources for the Art Canada Institute's (ACI) Canadian Schools Art Education Program. ACI worked with her on the development of curriculum for two Teacher Resource Guides, including "Learn about Intergenerational Knowledge through the Art of Annie Pootoogook", and "Learn about Land and Community Stewardship through the Art of Pitseolak Ashoona." Marilyn's expertise and insights made curriculum design an enriching, profoundly meaningful experience, and we look forward to every opportunity to work with her again in future."

Why This Matters

Aerial view of turquoise river winding through dense evergreen forest with small footbridge.

You’re tired of leadership frameworks that weren’t built for you.

You’ve followed their rules. Adopted their language. Muted parts of yourself to fit in. And you’re still exhausted.

What if you could lead without abandoning who you are?

I work with Indigenous, Black, racialized and marginalized professionals, visionary leaders, changemakers and values-aligned organizations who refuse to choose between advancing their careers and staying whole.

Together, we build leadership that’s rooted in your values, connected to your wisdom, and powerful enough to navigate uncertainty—without performing for systems that were never designed to hold you.

This is leadership as reclamation. Spiritual and political. Tender and determined.

It’s the work of coming home to yourself while creating space for others to do the same.

You don’t need another framework that wasn’t built for you.

You need support that honours who you are and where you’re going.

I’m Marilyn Maychak – an Inuk Polish-Ukrainian woman, and I know what it costs to lead in spaces that weren’t made for you.

The cost of code-switching. The grief of being unseen. The tension of holding your values while surviving systems designed to extract rather than honour. I’ve walked this path, and I’m still walking it.

That’s why I don’t position myself as the expert with all the answers.

I’m your companion in this work – someone who understands the terrain, holds space for your struggle and your vision, and believes your leadership doesn’t need fixing. It needs tending.

My work is guided by Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit – what Inuit have always known to be true.

Together, we create the conditions for you to lead from your deepest knowing, without sacrificing yourself in the process.

How I Support Your Journey

The work of reclamation takes many forms. Sometimes you need support for your personal leadership journey. Sometimes you need a thought partner for complex decisions. Sometimes your team needs space to do transformational work together.

You need support that meets you where you are and honours where you’re going.

Here’s how we can work together:

Offerings

Holistic Coaching

One-on-one coaching for leaders who won't sacrifice who they are to lead. This is coaching that honours your whole self, your wisdom, and the complexity of what you're navigating.

For leaders finding their way home to themselves.

Critical Friend & Strategic Adviser

Thought partnership for leaders navigating decisions that have no roadmap. You're weighing choices that affect your team, your integrity, and your future—often in systems that don't account for your reality or honour the way you lead.

For leaders who need someone who understands the terrain.

Relational Facilitation

Facilitation that centers relationships, not just outcomes. I hold space for teams to have the conversations everyone's been avoiding—where you can speak truth, navigate conflict with care, and co-create vision rooted in shared values and trust, not just timelines.

For teams who know that the real work is relational, and who are ready to tend to it with intention.

Authentic Involvement

Support for organizations wanting to engage communities with integrity. Not performative consultation. Not tokenistic engagement. Real relationship-building that honours Indigenous protocols and centers those most impacted.

For organizations committed to engagement work that doesn't harm.
